Italic numbers are calculated by StockData from reported figures (hover for the formula). Numbers with a dotted underline are read from the text of earnings releases and presentations; hover to see the exact sentence. Tick a row to add it to the chart above (up to 8 lines).
Methodology and excluded metrics
- Calendar fiscal year. Union Pacific's operating subsidiary is Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR, reporting mark UP).
- Volume, pricing and network metrics come from the operating statistics in each quarterly earnings release. Fleet, track, capital program, safety, TTX, Mexico and fuel-surcharge figures come from the 10-K / 10-Q.
- STB data (Surface Transportation Board): monthly employment by job group is filed about a month after period end; UPRR's quarterly statutory reports (RE&I, CBS, wage statistics, fuel) lag the 10-Q by about a quarter, so their continuity is checked against the latest STB quarter. STB figures follow the Uniform System of Accounts for UPRR alone and differ slightly from Union Pacific Corporation's GAAP figures.
- The 2026 column of 'Capital plan' is the plan given in the FY2025 10-K.
- All figures are as published by Union Pacific or the STB; no ratios, totals or estimates are added. The only arithmetic is splitting reported totals into quarters: Q4 = full year (10-K) − nine months (10-Q), and quarterly cash flows = year-to-date − previous year-to-date (shown in italics).
- Union Pacific Corporation is a holding company reporting under U.S. GAAP without parent-only statements, so there is no consolidated − parent split.
- Merger: Union Pacific agreed on July 28, 2025 to acquire Norfolk Southern (1 UNP share + $88.82 cash per NSC share); share buybacks are paused while the STB reviews the deal.
- A metric is shown only when the three most recent quarters (months) all have data; annual-only metrics need the two latest fiscal years. Fuel surcharge and Mexico revenue are published for Q1–Q3 and the full year only.
