Methodology and excluded metrics
- Amazon's latest reported quarter is Q2 2026. The Q3 2026 column holds the guidance Amazon gave for it; monthly U.S. Census columns run ahead of Amazon's reports.
- Amazon does not publish monthly data, Prime membership, unit counts or data center capacity in its filings. Operating numbers come from the Business Metrics table of each earnings release (paid units growth, third-party seller unit mix, shipping costs, employees), the 10-Q / 10-K (backlog, commitments, capex and property by segment, square footage, store count) and the earnings call (run rates, capex plan, power added).
- Call transcripts come from The Motley Fool (Amazon's IR site is behind a bot wall and Amazon does not post transcripts); Q1 and Q2 2025 transcripts were not found. Only numbers spoken by Amazon executives with a verbatim quote are used; bounds such as 'over $25 billion' are left out.
- In Q2 2026 Amazon's backlog includes OpenAI's expanded commitment (disclosed in the 10-Q) and a deal with Anthropic for over $100 billion signed after Q1.
- All figures are as published by Amazon or the external source; no ratios, totals or estimates are added. The only arithmetic is splitting reported totals into quarters: Q4 = full year − nine months, and quarterly cash capex = year-to-date − previous year-to-date (shown in italics).
- Growth excluding FX is shown only where it differs from reported growth by 2 points or more on average over the last eight quarters; Amazon guides on a reported basis.
- U.S. GAAP filings have no parent-only statements, so there is no consolidated − parent split.
- A metric is shown only when the three most recent quarters (months) all have data; annual-only metrics need the two latest fiscal years.
